GreenWorks Composite Assessment™

What’s behind your walls? Often, a green home appears like any other home, but in reality, is built to a higher standard. After decades in the green homes industry, we have learned that the typical understanding of green by those involved in the transactions around an environmentally-friendly home are woefully inadequate … so we created our own system to uncover the value of what lies behind the walls of your green home.

Community Involvement

GreenWorks agents are an exceptional group of people who are highly active in their communities. Their business is largely driven by volunteering with various organizations including the Northwest Eco-Building Guild, Built Green of King & Snohomish Counties, Seattle 2030 District, The Great City Initiative, Seattle Chamber of Commerce, and BALLE Seattle (Business Alliance for Local Living Economies).

GreenWorks agents have amassed an impressive list of non-profit board memberships, article presentations, public speaking invitations, green education forums, writing blogs, and supporting local charities. GreenWorks agents create warm and meaningful relationships with their clients by finding creative ways to drive the GreenWorks mission.

GreenWorks has proved to be a market leader and influencer. Green is just at the beginning of long-term substantial growth in market share. GreenWorks is focused on continuing to build the green marketplace and ready to grow the company and innovative services. We are committed to reducing our collective carbon footprint and other measures to live our green values.

history

GreenWorks Realty formed in 2007, built upon the industry experience of father-son team, Louie and Ben Kaufman and grounded in the goal to transform how housing is developed in our region. Ben studied sustainable communities at University of Washington in the Community & Environmental Urban Planning Program. He believes real estate can drive significant environmental and social change.

Building upon the goal of transforming the industry, GreenWorks joined with Beneficial Ventures, a B Corp. brokerage centered around the principal that business can give back to the community that it serves, in 2017. Rebecca Sayre joined the team in 2017, drawn by the unique combination of vision, experience and industry leadership. For the last 20 years, she has worked as an environmental advocate with a focus on practical actions that empower people to reduce their impact, both individually and collectively. Together, we are excited to help you understand and maximize the true value of your environmentally-certified home.

What is a Green Home?

Green homes are often visually indistinguishable from conventional homes. The difference is in the details. Designed and constructed to provide a variety of health and ecological benefits, green homes offer:

  • Healthier indoor air quality - by using low toxic building materials and finishes, supplying good air flow, limiting potential for mold growth and maximizing use of hard surfaces

  • Energy and water efficiency - by optimizing home and garden design and utilizing appliances that conserve energy and water

  • A cleaner environment - by reducing waste, pollution and emission of greenhouse gases

  • A smaller ecological footprint - by using sustainably harvested and recycled resources, as well as minimizing environmental impact from site development

  • Reduced maintenance costs - through lowered utility bills and use of the highest quality durable materials

  • Reduced construction impact - minimizes environmental impact from site development

Types of Green Building Certifications

built Green®

In order to recognize and distinguish newly constructed green homes on the  market, King County’s Master Builder Association has developed a rating system to certify Built Green® residential construction based on national standards. Scores can range from 1-5 stars depending on the number of points obtained in six critical sections: regulation and code, site and water, energy efficiency, health and indoor air quality, materials efficiency and the promotion of environmentally friendly homeowner operations and maintenance. ENERGY STAR®

Northwest ENERGY STAR Homes® are better built, more comfortable homes that save you money on your utility bills every month. Every Northwest ENERGY STAR certified home has been built to meet energy efficient guidelines set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency. From energy efficient windows to advanced heating and cooling systems, ENERGY STAR homes guarantee greater savings, comfort and peace-of-mind. Simply stated, ENERGY STAR homes are built better for you and the environment.

LEED

LEED for Homes is a rating system that promotes the design and construction of high-performance green homes. A green home uses less energy, water and natural resources; creates less waste; and is healthier and more comfortable for the occupants. Benefits of a LEED home include lower energy and water bills; reduced greenhouse gas emissions; and less exposure to mold, mildew and other indoor toxins. The net cost of owning a LEED home is comparable to that of owning a conventional home.
